The Kavango West Region is stepping up efforts to become one of Namibia's key food-producing regions.
During her State of Region Address, Governor Verna Sinimbo said residents should see tangible progress, not just promises.
This year's SORA was held under the theme "Growing The Future Together: Youth-Led Agriculture, Employment and Prosperity for Kavango West".
Sinimbo explained that the theme reflects on collective commitment to empowering the youth, strengthening agricultural production, creating sustainable employment opportunities and building a prosperous future for all residents of Kavango West.
"The future of Kavango West depends not only on the resources with which we have been blessed but also on our ability to transform those resources into opportunities for our people. It depends on our ability to create jobs. It depends on our ability to modernise agriculture. It depends on our ability to educate and train our youth. It depends on our ability to attract investment, support entrepreneurship and build resilient communities. Most importantly, it depends on our ability to work together."
Sinimbo further added that agriculture remains the backbone of the region's economy and provides livelihoods for thousands of households.
"It requires quality education, vocational and technical skills, entrepreneurship, innovation, infrastructure, access to markets, effective public services and strong partnerships between government, traditional authorities, development partners, communities and the private sector. As we continue implementing the government's developmental agenda, we remain committed to ensuring that development reaches every constituency, every village and every household."
