State-owned enterprises have been urged to strengthen collaboration with the Namibian Broadcasting Corporation.

The aim, its Director General Menesia Muinjo says, is to improve service delivery, enhance public communication, and expand national coverage through shared infrastructure and programming.

This comes during a courtesy visit to Muinjo by the Chief Executive Officer of the Lüderitz Waterfront Development Company, Fluksman Samuehl.

Discussions focused on NBC's proposed expansion. This includes a permanent operational presence at the Lüderitz Waterfront.

It also covers plans to boost regional broadcasting, sports coverage, and economic storytelling.

"So it's a great effort that the former DG and you have really worked on and created that path so that we can shorten the distance of our team. They are on the route almost every second week, if not weekly."

The Chief Executive Officer of the Lüderitz Waterfront Development Company, Fluksman Samuehl, said Lüderitz is emerging as a strategic economic centre. This is driven by oil exploration, green hydrogen projects, and port expansion by NamPort. It is also attracting growing government and international interest.

The CEO also highlighted the importance of economic activities that are currently taking place in the southern coastal town.

"I think what NBC cannot ignore is that the unfolding developments that are happening and the economic sectors are going to draw a lot of people. We have been warned that the population of Ludritz will triple. In 1991, the population was only 7,000. Two years ago, the BBC and the agency informed us that there are now about 14,000-plus people. We have been warned that in the next five years, the population may double or triple in Ludritz."

Samuehl said NBC teams currently travel long distances to cover events in the region. He said a permanent presence would improve efficiency and strengthen coverage.

The engagement also explored the possibility of dedicated NBC programming. This would showcase state-owned enterprises and their role in economic development and public service delivery.
