Prime Minister Elijah Ngurare says the N$500 million allocated towards the formalisation of informal settlements was not sufficient to complete the projects and to expand to other regions.

This was his response to IPC MP Ottilie Haitota, who sought clarity on the progress made with the project.

"It is important to note that an additional 30 townships were proclaimed in greenfield areas. In terms of the erven that were serviced, no erven were fully serviced in the informal settlement areas as funds were used for bulk services, namely water and sewer services. However, 640 erven were fully serviced in greenfield areas in Otjiworongo and Omaruru, respectively."

Dr. Ngurare revealed that through government funding, 1112 houses were constructed by March this year in both green and brownfield areas, with the remaining three thousand houses allocated to the Shack Dwellers Federation scheduled for completion.

"Our commitment in terms of speed of implementation remains unchanged because of delay and work in progress; the President has pardoned those words; they must not be used. We must make sure that we are moving at a pace and speed that resonates with the expectations that our people have.
