Learners from schools in the newly established Tsumkwe education circuit gathered on Thursday for a spelling bee competition focused on science, hosted by Tsumkwe Senior Secondary School.
The competition brought together learners from Tsumkwe Primary School, Matako Primary School, Mangetti Combined School, and Gam Combined School. They tested their knowledge of scientific terminology and spelling skills in front of teachers, fellow learners, and education officials.
The event is being celebrated following the establishment of the Tsumkwe circuit office earlier this year.
Previously, schools in the area fell under the Grootfontein circuit, and they had to travel more than 200 kilometres to participate in academic competitions and other circuit-level activities.
Education stakeholders say the creation of the Tsumkwe circuit has brought services closer to schools and learners, making it easier for them to take part in educational programmes and competitions without the burden of long-distance travel.
The constituency has more than 40 schools that were previously administered under the Grootfontein circuit.
