Busy Kids Private School hosted the third edition of its annual Under-11 Soccer and Netball Tournament over the weekend at the Okatana Sport Field in Oshakati, Oshana Region. More than 300 learners from the host school and surrounding areas took part in the competition, providing a platform for children from diverse backgrounds to showcase their skills, build confidence, and foster school pride through sport.
In the final football match, Olles FC faced Predator FC. Following a 1-1 draw in regulation time, the match was decided by a penalty shootout, with Olles FC securing a 3-2 victory to claim the tournament title.
Acting Principal Gloria Innosensia Ndaningina welcomed the strong turnout, stating that the event drew thousands of spectators this year. She explained that while it is a school tournament, invitations are extended to schools across different regions to ensure nationwide participation. Ndaningina emphasized that Busy Kids remains the only school in the region focusing specifically on under-11 sports development, noting that children in this age bracket are often overlooked. She added that sport serves as a vital tool for instilling discipline in learners, impacting their behavior not only on the field but also within the classroom and the broader community.
Sport organiser Kerttu Hilukilwa attributed the success of the tournament to the widespread participation of regional teams. She noted that the event was highly successful, with 23 invited teams turning up from the Omusati, Ohangwena, and Oshikoto regions.
Olles FC Coach Ngesheya Patrick praised his team's hard work and determination, which ultimately led to their tournament victory.
Parent Paulus Jeremia encouraged more families and community members to support the initiative to ensure its longevity. He described the experience of watching the under-11 children play as wonderful and praised the tournament for bringing young boys and girls together to develop their talents. Jeremia urged other schools to emulate this initiative and called on potential sponsors to come forward and support the event in the coming years.
Meanwhile, two young participants shared their excitement about competing and forming new friendships. One participant encouraged more girls to join the sport, describing soccer as an exciting game that relies on skill and teamwork. Another young athlete highlighted their team's competitive spirit, noting that after playing over 20 games to reach that stage, their focus was entirely on playing their best and securing a win.
