Netball Namibia hosted national trials at the United Netball Courts in Windhoek to select a provisional Debmarine Desert Jewels squad for the Pent Series, which will be held from 12 to 16 August at the MTC Dome in Swakopmund.
The tournament will serve as preparation for Namibia's participation in the 2027 Netball World Cup Africa Qualifiers in Kenya in September. Four African nations will qualify for the Netball World Cup in Sydney, Australia, with South Africa and Uganda having already secured two of the available places.
The trials brought together 24 players, all hoping to earn a place in the national squad.
Head Coach Julene Meyer said she was encouraged by the quality of the players' performances, commitment and intensity throughout the selection process.
Debutant Elmarien Haoses, who earned her first national team call-up after several previous attempts, said the opportunity showed that perseverance and patience pay off.
Experienced player Imbileni Frans, who has represented Namibia since 2017, said the combination of experienced players and new talent will strengthen the squad ahead of the upcoming competitions.
The selected squad will now begin preparations for the Pent Series in Swakopmund before travelling to Kenya in September for the 2027 Netball World Cup Africa Qualifiers, where the remaining two African qualification places for the World Cup in Sydney will be decided.
