Four suspects linked to a N$1.8 million fraud scam have been remanded in custody by the Tsumeb Magistrate's Court.
Making their second appearance before Magistrate Juliet Mulilo were accused persons Nelson Kazombiaze, Abner Mathues, Lukas Nekwaya and Clemens Enkono on the status of legal aid representation in the matter. They are arraigned for fraud, theft and prevention of organised crime.
A fifth suspect, Dylan Goagoseb, is the only accused with a lawyer, whose bail of N$2 000 was extended.
The men are accused of scamming a 68-year-old pensioner of over N$1.8 million in October 2025 at Tsumeb.
According to records, the pensioner was called by one of the suspects, who claimed to be representing NAMRA and needed financial details of the victim to effect a tax refund.
The victim, believing the request was genuine, complied and provided the information, and shortly thereafter, fraudulent transactions started reflecting, and the matter was brought to the attention of the police.
Magistrate Mulilo postponed the matter to 21 October for status on legal aid representation and further police investigations.
The investigators have connected two of the accused to the brutal 2025 murder of Ondangwa prosecutor Justine Shiweda, who died after being shot and doused in acid.
Former police officer Mathues and Nekwaya are accused in the murder of Ondangwa prosecutor Justine Shiweda, a matter currently before that town's court.
