The Oshakati Town Council continues to make strides in road infrastructure development across the town, with a budget clocking in at over N$36 million.

This was revealed by the Oshakati Town Council's Corporate Communications Officer, Martin Kapuka, in an interview with NBC News. 

Amongst the road upgrades being undertaken, Kapuka says, is a 100-metre section leading to the Oshakati Intermediate Hospital, which has been in a dilapidated state for years.

The various road upgrades will enable the town to ensure a smooth flow of traffic and provide the road users some sense of relief from the potholes that characterised the various road sections.

Kapuka adds that as the town expands and registers a high number of vehicles that frequent the various roads, it has become inevitable to upgrade the roads. 

"It's very important that we upgrade this road because it's an access point for businesses, residential areas, schools and healthcare services to the Oshakati State Hospital. It's also important because for a very long time our people have been complaining about the road, and we have actually heard them, and we are now here."

Kapuka says the projects form part of the Council's road infrastructure programme, which also includes the upgrading and maintenance of streets, sidewalks, and stormwater infrastructure.

"We also have additionally four other constructions taking place, and all together they are at N$36.1 million inclusive of the Oshakati extension one, the Distel road, the Oshakati West road, as well as the Oshakati Coca-Cola road and the Oshakati extension 1 and extension 12 roads. Oshakati is growing, and we should be able to ensure that roads are up to standard to ensure the roads are at municipal standard to make sure that our people are able to get from point A to point B." 

The upgrades are expected to accelerate development and ensure a seamless traffic flow within the town's boundaries.
