Thousands of runners are expected to take to the streets for the upcoming NBC Marathon. As preparations intensify, authorities are reminding motorists that temporary road restrictions will be implemented across key routes to ensure the safety of participants and the general public.

The success of a major sporting event extends beyond the athletes on the starting line. With thousands of runners set to compete, close collaboration between event organisers and transport authorities remains essential.

Roads Authority Public Relations Officer Hileni Fillemon confirmed that transport inspectors will be deployed on Saturday morning to enforce safety regulations."There will definitely be an inspection on Saturday morning to ensure road safety is maintained at all times. We expect organisers to engage traffic officials to assist them, alongside NBC staff members who will ensure that runners remain within their designated areas."

With the race course passing through several major thoroughfares, authorities are urging motorists to familiarise themselves with the affected roads and plan their journeys in advance to avoid unnecessary delays.

Fillemon emphasized that strict traffic controls will be enforced along the entire route. "Runners must be accompanied by traffic officials at all times and remain strictly within the sections allocated to them. In addition, law enforcement personnel will be deployed to monitor motorists, enforce speed limits, and maintain overall safety along the route."

A major adjustment will affect traffic flow along the main northern exit of the capital, where lane reductions will be in place during the event."On the B1 route, the section from the Katutura State Hospital underpass up to the Okapuka roadblock will be partially closed to accommodate marathon runners. Only one lane will be available for motorists, and delays can be expected. We urge road users to plan their journeys accordingly, exercise patience, and give runners the space they need to compete safely."

For authorities, clear and early communication remains critical to reducing confusion on race day. As the country prepares for one of its premier road-running events, officials are calling on the public to support the marathon by adhering to temporary traffic arrangements to ensure a safe and successful event for all participants.
