The Government Institutions Pension Fund has approved a five percent increase in disability income benefits for qualifying members, effective from 1 April this year.
The increase will benefit 349 pensioners currently receiving disability income from the Fund, with the annual cost of the benefits expected to rise from about 34-comma-four million dollars to 36-comma-one million.
The Fund says the adjustment demonstrates the Fund's commitment to ensuring that disability beneficiaries maintain a reasonable standard of living amid changing economic conditions.
GIPF Corporate Communications Manager Katrina Sikeni said that as of 31 March 2025, GIPF reported a surplus of approximately N$46.9 billion that provides a strong foundation for enhancing member benefits while maintaining long-term financial sustainability.
