Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries, Water and Land Reform Inge Zaamwani has motivated the motion on the appointment of five members to the Land Reform Advisory Commission for a period of three years.
The Land Tribunal is an independent statutory body established in accordance with Section 63, which provides for the independent adjudication process regarding the allocation of land to ensure fairness and transparency in compliance.
Zamwaani stated that the commission instills confidence in the Namibian people that ministerial decisions can be reviewed and set aside, which is an important aspect of ensuring fairness and accountability in the allocation process.
"I therefore humbly request this August House to deliberate and approve the appointment of the following candidates to serve as members of the land tribunals. The first one, Ms Rachel Nathaniel-Koch. She is a legal person and is proposed to be the chairperson. Ms. Ileni Gebhardt is a legal person and is proposed as an alternate vice chairperson. Mr. Petrus Tonateni Amakutuwa is an ordinary member. Ms Inekela Soiny Kambindji is also an ordinary member, and Mr Christopher Khaile is an ordinary member."
The House is still deliberating on the appointment of the five members.
