The Swapo Party business community in the Ohangwena Region has contributed N$111,000 to the construction of a new fence around the party's regional headquarters in Eenhana.

The contribution was announced during a Regional Executive Committee meeting held in the town on Saturday.

Party members present during the regional executive also mobilised resources for the construction of a boundary fence for the party regional office. The party's existing fence is reportedly in a deplorable condition, leaving party property and other resources exposed to theft and vandalism.

Swapo Party Ohangwena Regional Coordinator Joshua Phillemon expressed appreciation to party members and the business community for their generous support.

Phillemon urged party members to remain united and work towards a common purpose of strengthening the Swapo Party for a better Namibia.

“Today, we witness unity in action, as our business leaders step forward to offer tangible support for our regional activities, especially the critical rehabilitation of our regional office fence. We pledged strictly principled management of every resource and contribution received today to go directly to upgrading our regional structure.”

At the meeting, the business community used the opportunity to submit a white paper, outlining its ambitions, concerns and expectations from the SWAPO Party and the government at large.

Among the concerns raised was limited access to finance, which the business community identified as one of the major challenges affecting the sustainability and growth of businesses.

The white paper was handed over to Swapo Party  Phillemon by business representative Fillip Nghikumwa.

“We are proud of and acknowledge the efforts of our government. The government subsidises the ploughing services, but we, as the business sector, are saying, ‘Let’s optimise these opportunities.’ The business sector can also work hand in hand with the Ministry of Agriculture to ensure that this service is effectively implemented in the region. Optimisation will increase food security in this region. The business community remains ready to collaborate with the regional structures in finding practical solutions to the economic challenges facing the Ohangwena Region and Namibia as a whole.”

Phillemon thanked members of the business community for their contribution and support, presenting them with certificates of appreciation. 

The certificates were handed over by the chairperson of leaders assigned to the Ohangwena Region, Lucia Iipumbu.
