FIMA consultation at Eenhana turn tense

Emotions ran high at the Ministry of Finance and Public Enterprises consultation on the Financial Institutions and Market Act (FIMA) regulation on the preservation retirement benefit fund at Eenhana.

Participants also highlighted that a lack of financial literacy in Namibia is a burden that needs action to educate the nation on financial matters.

One of the Technical Advisory Committee members conducting consultations, Martino Olivier, felt that the participants did not give the committee time to respond to their concerns.

Ohangwena Governor reports on successes in service delivery

Ohangwena Governor Walde Ndevashiya says effective governance, economic development, social progression, infrastructure development, and the strengthening of international relations are factors key to economic emancipation.

Ndevashiya made these remarks during his fourth State of the Region Address at Eenhana.

The governor says the region has made great improvements in service delivery in areas including health care provision, education, and rural electrification.

Northern regions affected by power outages

The residents of the four northern regions were also affected by the power outages initiated by NamPower yesterday.

The town of Ondangwa was the first to face the consequences of NamPower, as their electricity was disconnected shortly after 17h00. 

Subsequently, power cuts were implemented in Ongwediva, Oshikuku, Eenhana, Outapi, and other towns and villages.

MoHSS hosts Menstrual Health and Hygiene Day at Eenhana

The Ministry of Health and Social Services hosted a Menstrual Health and Hygiene Day at Eenhana to create awareness of the importance of good menstrual health and management. 

The day was preceded by a street march by learners and was further marked with dances and songs, sending a strong message about the importance of menstrual health and hygiene in schools.

NamPol Urges the Public to Observe Traffic Laws and Regulations

The Inspector General of the Namibian Police has called on the public to observe traffic laws and regulations for an accident-free festive season.

Lieutenant General Joseph Shikongo, who had meetings in the Ohangwena Region, also called on all peace-loving Namibians to put extra energy into fighting crimes.

The Police Chief had a series of activities and discussions with the public as well as the business community to discuss and solicit input from them on issues pertaining to service delivery and the contribution that the public can make to fight security challenges.

Eenhana residents remember brothers who drowned in earth dam

Residents of Eenhana gathered at the infamous earth dam for a candlelight vigil in memory of the two late brothers who drowned in the dam.

The two brothers, Immanuel Tangeni Shapwanale and Lukas Shiwomwenyo Shapwanale, aged 30 and 31, died instantly after their vehicle flipped and fell into the dam while they were trying to draw water for the brick-making project that was owned by one of them.

The ceremony started with a police escort to the business of the two brothers and proceeded to the Anglican Church where the memorial service was held.

Two brothers died in an earth dam at Eenhana

Two brothers died instantly this morning following a freak accident in an earth dam at Eenhana in the Ohangwena Region. 

Preliminary investigations revealed that the two were part of a group of four men whose motor vehicle, a Toyota Hilux, was being reversed to the edge of the earth dam for the occupants to draw water and fill containers for their brick-making business when the car flipped and fell into the dam, being submerged within minutes. 

Regional authorities called to embrace and drive NNP campaign

The Minister of Information and Communication Technology, Dr Peya Mushelenga, has called on regional authorities to embrace and drive the Nationhood and National Pride(NNP) campaign.

Speaking during the regional stakeholders' engagement at Eenhana in the Ohangwena Region, Dr Mushelenga emphasised the role of the regional leadership in spearheading and ensuring the successful implementation of the campaign in the region.
