The just-ended Public Service Human Resource Conference led to meaningful discussions and resolutions aimed at strengthening the country's public service.
The Director for Human Resource Compliance, Public Service Commission, Tangeni Haitula, highlighted the importance of the discussions held, urging participants to reflect on how human resource practices can contribute to a more professional, ethical, inclusive, efficient, and future-oriented public service.
"Professionalisation of public service requires more than qualifications. It requires integrity, it requires competency, accountability, respect for employees, inclusive practices, effective leadership, more than technology, a strong connection between human resource decisions and national development policies, and that human resource practitioners and institutional leaders must move from routine administration towards strategic people's impact and solution-oriented leadership that improves both employee experience and public service delivery."
At the same occasion, the Chairperson of the Public Service Commission, Patrick Nandago, emphasised that the call by Prime Minister Elijah Ngurare has set the tone for all stakeholders to uphold ethics and transparency, urging Namibia's public service human resource practitioners to lead with fairness and accountability in recruitment and management practices.
He stressed the need to eliminate bureaucracy within institutions and to restore common sense and integrity in how the workforce is managed and evaluated.
"The commissioners and I have been encouraged by a deeply engaged and honest dialogue around our theme, the theme of this conference, which is towards the professionalisation of the public service of Namibia. And now, let us move towards acting on what we have learned and discussed here at NIPAM. For the same goals, action is the foundational key to all success."
The event brought together over 300 participants from across Namibia's public sector under the theme "Towards professionalism in the public services".
