A concerned group from Mukwe Constituency has issued an urgent petition to the Ministry of Works and Transport and the Roads Authority (RA), demanding immediate accountability over stalled and abandoned multi-million-dollar road projects in the constituency.

The community’s main concern is the Divundu–Muhembo Border Post Road. Although a 5-kilometre bitumen stretch has been completed, upgrading works on the remaining 13 kilometres passing through Mahango National Park were halted.

The community stressed that this strategic cross-border corridor is vital for international trade with Botswana, tourism and local mobility.

Residents also expressed frustration over the deplorable condition of the Andara–Shamaturu Road, which they say delays emergency access to Andara District Hospital, putting lives at risk.

They are also lobbying for the eventual bitumen upgrading of the neglected Divundu–Mbambi Road.

The group is demanding a budget for the resumption of construction.
