The Rob Youth Foundation Namibia held a cleanup campaign at Rundu, joined by the community, the private sector, education institutions, and the region's leadership.

The Regional Director at Rob Youth Foundation, Anna Ndondi, said, "The cleaning campaign initiative is actually the first time we are holding it here in Rundu, or the Kavango East Region; it's under the theme: Our region, our responsibility, youth united for a better Kavango East Region, for greener pasture."

The cleanup took place along the Dr. Samuel Kaveto Mbambo road, which stretches from the Trans-Caprivi highway to the Rundu UNAM campus.

Ndondi stressed that the street is an eyesore to everyone.

"Sometimes we see young kids playing at these dustbins and surrounded places, and we decided that at least maybe our hands can assist the community and for the kids as well to have a healthier environment around them."

Residents Josephine Mukonda and Frans Siteketa staying nearby say the dirty road doesn't show a good example to visitors who drive along it. 

"It is very dirty; the area is littered. Every evening you see kids sent with wheelbarrows to come and throw their household waste here, some carrying big waste bags, and this doesn't look well."

"As we are promoting ethical behaviour, it's very imperative for us to be down here to clean our town because safety starts with us, and then when you live in a free and clean environment, it's safer for everyone."

The Rundu Town Council (RTC) applauded the efforts of the Rob Youth Foundation for the initiative.

Valentinus Likuwa is the RTC's Solid Waste Foreman.

"It's a social responsibility for each institution to give back to the community. This cleaning campaign is very important, as you can see this road is very dirty; it's one of the areas where service delivery is not up to par. We really appreciate the community who have joined."
