The Minister of Agriculture, Water, Fisheries and Land Reform, Inge Zaamwani, has clarified that the Kavango River water link to Windhoek project is currently at the Environmental Impact Assessment stage, with consultations involving communities, traditional leaders, regional and local authorities and other stakeholders in the affected areas. 

She was responding to a question by All People's Party leader Ambrosius Kuumbwa on the scope of consultations relating to the project.

In her response, Minister Zaamwani said that the next phase will depend on the outcome of the EIA, and therefore the final arrangements cannot yet be determined.

"We can continue the conversation into the next phase. However, the intention is for this water to benefit Namibians along the river and across the route. The final decision regarding the water's allocation will be made, bearing in mind that this is a transboundary river shared between Namibia, Angola, and Botswana." 

Minister Zaamwanie explained that once the outcome of the impact assessment is available, the ministers will convene, and representatives from each country will approach their relevant approval structures to authorise the next stage.
