Erongo RED has donated N$71,000 raised through its inaugural half marathon to support vulnerable communities in the Erongo Region.
Chief Executive Officer Immanuel !Hanabeb said the funds were raised during the race held on 22nd November 2025 as part of the company's 20th anniversary celebrations.
The event attracted 537 participants across three race categories.
"Today is not all about who crossed the line first, but it's about the last thing impact of the event that we had last year through those issues that we have collected. I got some of the money. We said our honourable governor, as a leader with a vision, must do the honour and distribute it to those who the governor says fit to receive such money or such funds, and I'm very pleased that perhaps in this instance, the governor has chosen marginalised communities as part of the beneficiaries of this initiative."
Of the total amount, N$30,000 will go to the Erongo San community and another N$30,000 to the Ovahimba community, while the remaining N$11,000 will be retained by the Governor's Office.
The Chairperson of the Erongo Region's San community, Markus Somseb, promised that the money will be put to good use to improve the lives of the community members.
" As a marginalised community facing economic challenges, we recognise the importance of coming together, building partnerships, and creating opportunities that will improve the lives of our people. It is with this vision in mind that our new Committee has been established, with a sincere commitment to promoting the development, empowerment, and well-being of San communities throughout the Erongo Region."
Speaking at the handover, Erongo Governor Nathalia |Goagoses said her social justice programme was not intended to oppose political leaders but to complement government efforts and improve the living conditions of vulnerable communities.
"Therefore, this social justice programme has to ensure that, especially in the Erongo Region, it must be filled apart and must be included in any development agenda in Erongo Region development programmes. Everyone finding him or herself in the Erongo Region should be part and parcel and should be included because I believe that inclusion, inclusivity, and harmony are where exclusivity spikes and conflict arise. May the late president rest in peace. Those were his words. Every platform he takes will remind us as leaders that inclusivity is harmony and exclusivity is conflict, and inclusivity can make our stability. Our country is stable."
