The leadership of the Kavango West Region and the Namibian Broadcasting Cooperation (NBC) have reaffirmed their commitment to strengthen cooperation to improve information flow and bring services closer to communities.
The NBC team met the region's leadership and discussed coverage and reception, local content, professionalism and partnerships.
The NBC Director General, Menesia Muinjo, acknowledged operational challenges, including shortages of equipment; however, efforts will be made to capacitate the regional team.
"Most of the matters raised there, apart from the network coverage, are things that we can actually manage, because they are also complementing and trying really to boost what we are supposed to do. So yeah, thank you very much, and really, it's only when we come at a table like that that you can clear some other matters."
Both parties agreed to maintain regular contact and pursue a formal partnership.
Minujo also touched on the closure of radio services time, the transition from DTT to DTH technology, as well as the "NBC Cares" initiative and Miss Namibia.
The Chairperson of the Kavango West Regional Council, Philipus Tenga, appreciated NBC's work so far in the region but called for increased coverage.
"We need also to increase the covering of capital projects in our region. So, that is our belief from the regional council, from Kavango West leadership. And also, talent discovery is that one. Also, it's a good thing to discover our talents. We have indicated that the Kavango West region is more rural. Almost 90% of Kavango West is rural. And you know when you are in the rural area, your mindset is also rural-based. Therefore, you need someone to come and at least take you up and uplift you from there."
The NBC opened its satellite office in Nkurenkuru in April this year.
