The proposed One-Stop Border Post at Oshikango-Santa Clara is aimed at simplifying border procedures, reducing delays, and strengthening trade between Namibia and Angola.
The initiative is among the key priorities of the inaugural Angola-Namibia Bi-National Commission, which will be co-chaired by the two Heads of State in Luanda on 19 October 2026.
The two countries are working to establish the policy and legal frameworks to facilitate cross-border trade and deepen economic cooperation.
These include an agreement on trade and economic cooperation and a draft agreement to establish the One-Stop Border Post at the Oshikango-Santa Clara crossing, expected to be signed during Monday's summit.
The facility is expected to improve the movement of goods and people, reduce administrative burdens, and make legitimate cross-border trade more efficient.
For communities along the shared border, this could mean better access to markets, lower costs, and increased livelihood opportunities.
Businesses could also benefit from improved competitiveness and greater confidence to invest in cross-border commerce.
Other priority projects include the Baynes Hydro Power Project, the Angola-Namibia Interconnector, improved internet connectivity, and permanent pump stations at Calueque, which are expected to be commissioned in December.
Speaking at the Senior Officials Meeting ahead of the summit, Namibia's Executive Director in the Ministry of International Relations and Trade, Jerobeam Shaanika, said trade between the two neighbouring countries remains below its potential despite their longstanding historical ties and shared economic opportunities.
Shaanika stressed that the success of the Bi-National Commission would depend on implementing the agreed commitments and translating bilateral cooperation into tangible benefits for the people of both countries.
