The National Assembly has observed a moment of silence in honour of the late Penehupifo Pohamba.

Speaker of the National Assembly, Saara Kuugongelwa-Amadhila, described the former first lady as a freedom fighter, health worker and servant to the people of Namibia.

Kuugongelwa-Amadhila said the former first lady was a passionate health worker who championed the health and rights of both men and women.

“Indeed, she was an epitome of calmness and humility. On behalf of the entire membership of the National Assembly and the Secretariat, I hear we express our collective profound sympathy and condolences to His Excellency, Hifikepunye Pohamba, our second president, the children, the entire extended family, and the Namibia nation during this time of immense bereavement. May we all rise and observe a minute of silence in her honour."
