Namibia's FNB Eagles levelled their five-match One Day International (ODI) series against Ireland at 1-1 after securing a 31-run victory in the second ODI at the High Performance Oval in Windhoek on Saturday, 24 October.
Captain Gerhard Erasmus starred with both bat and ball, scoring an unbeaten 156 off 125 deliveries before taking two wickets as Namibia successfully defended their total of 321 for six.
Ireland won the toss and elected to field, putting Namibia under early pressure. However, Erasmus and Jan Frylinck steadied the innings with a 117-run partnership. Frylinck contributed a solid 76 off 90 deliveries, providing crucial support as the Eagles built their foundation.
Namibia accelerated in the closing stages, scoring 111 runs in the final 10 overs. Alexander Volschenk added a quickfire 30 off 20 balls, while Erasmus continued to find the boundaries to set Ireland a challenging target of 322 runs.
Ireland began their chase positively, with Paul Stirling scoring 77 off 71 balls. However, Namibia made regular breakthroughs, with Nicol Loftie-Eaton dismissing Harry Tector for six before Jack Brassell removed Lorcan Tucker and Stirling to put the visitors under pressure.
Ireland attempted to rebuild through Curtis Campher (45) and George Dockrell (48). Their 85-run partnership briefly brought the visitors back into contention, but Brassell broke the stand and dismissed Dockrell shortly afterwards.
Brassell finished with standout figures of 4 for 52 in 7.5 overs, playing a key role in Namibia's defense. Erasmus then claimed two late wickets as Ireland were bowled out for 290 in 47.3 overs.
The victory sets up a crucial third encounter at the High Performance Oval in Windhoek, where both teams will look to take the lead in the series.
