Young fighters from MTC Kilimanjaro Boxing Club are stepping up preparations in Oshakati ahead of an amateur tournament in Otjinene, Omaheke Region, this weekend, as the club takes its grassroots development programme beyond northern Namibia.
MTC Kilimanjaro Boxing Club has established itself as a key amateur boxing structure, developing junior and senior fighters through regular training and competitive opportunities designed to help them progress through the amateur ranks.
Under the guidance of coach Fabian Lamek and club founder Benhard Joseph, the boxers are intensifying their preparations for both the Otjinene event and the MTC Kilimanjaro Annual Boxing Cup scheduled for December 2026.
The current training cycle focuses on enhancing conditioning, sharpening technical execution, and building ring readiness, allowing the technical team to evaluate fighters across various weight divisions.
Joseph emphasized that staging amateur bouts in the Omaheke Region aligns with the club's strategy to broaden the sport's national reach and provide exposure to emerging talent outside their usual competitive environment.
Due to the upcoming academic examination period, the club will field a select delegation of two leading fighters for the Otjinene tournament, while the rest of the squad continues preparation for December's annual showpiece.
Coach Lamek expressed satisfaction with the team's technical progress during camp, noting that the discipline, structure, and travel opportunities provided through boxing contribute directly to the personal growth of young athletes.
Following the Otjinene assignment, MTC Kilimanjaro Boxing Club will shift its focus entirely to hosting its annual December tournament, which is set to feature a broader field of junior and senior boxers.
