The outbreaks and economic impact of Lumpy Skin Disease since 2024 prompted the Livestock and Livestock Products Board of Namibia to introduce a vaccine subsidy programme for the coming year.

This was revealed by the Board's Manager of Farm Assured Namibian Meat, Victor Klazen.

Klazen explained how the 50% financial subsidy works and outlined the required number of vaccine doses.

"If a farmer purchases N$1,000 of vaccine, he/she will receive about N$500."

The subsidy is available to all farmers, be it commercial or communal.

Farmers can also team up to buy vaccines.

"However, only one livestock producer can make the claim since the vaccine is being purchased by just one individual. To support their claim, they will need to provide a statement from the police detailing the steps taken to ensure that all participants were involved."

The subsidy application forms can be downloaded from the Livestock and Livestock Products Board of Namibia's website or collected from the Board's head office in Windhoek.

The subsidy period started in January this year and will end on the 31st March next year.
