Consuming fish can increase protein intake and promote a healthy lifestyle. However, many landlocked communities in Namibia find it difficult to access fish.
It is against this background that the Namibia Fish Consumption Promotion Trust, NFSPT, is introducing different programmes to ensure that these communities have access to fish.
The promotion of fish consumption in Aranos is just one of the many activities planned by the NFSPT.
To further ensure that all Namibians benefit from fish resources, the Trust has partnered with the Namibia Business Innovation Institute of the Namibia University of Science and Technology to develop, train, and recruit SMEs and distribution agents for the Trust.
To date, the NFSPT operates 18 fish shops across the country located in all 14 regions; however, many remote communities are still to benefit from the fish shop programme due to the long distances from regional town centres.
Hardap Governor Salomon April appealed to the Trust to establish fish shops in all areas in the region and ensure that training for fish shop businesses is brought closer to the communities.
