Namibia is looking forward to enhancing cooperation with the EU through the non-binding Memorandum of Understanding on Sustainable Raw Materials and Renewable Hydrogen.
The Minister of International Relations and Cooperation, Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah, said this in response to a remark that the EU was planning to ease itself off dependency on Russia's gas.
During the Namibia-EU Political Dialogue, Sinikka Antila revealed that Russian gas accounted for 40% of EU gas imports last year, but it is now only 9% of pipeline gas.
BBC News recently reported that the EU said leaks in two major gas pipelines from Russia to Europe were caused by sabotage but stopped short of directly accusing Russia. They reported that the EU has previously accused Russia of using gas supplies and the Nord Stream pipelines as a weapon against the West. Neither pipeline is said to be transporting gas at the moment, although they both contain gas.
