Namibia lost a total of 920 000 hectares of grazing land due to veld fire between April this year and 15 September.
This was revealed by the Ministry of Environment, Forestry and Tourism in a media statement on Thursday.
The ministry's Chief Public Relations Officer said these veld fires were reported in nine regions.
The Kavango East Region lost over 475 000 hectares, followed by Otjozondjupa with over 228 000 hectares, the Zambezi with 148 000, Hardap with 19 000, Erongo with 14 000, and Kavango West with 10 thousand hectares of land due to the fires.
While the Kunene and Khomas regions each lost over 7000 hectares, the Oshikoto Region lost 6000 hectares.
Muyunda also revealed that the ministry is aware of the current burning fire outside the south-western boundary of the Etosha National Park and resources have been dispatched to fight the fire, while the one on the Zambezi flood plains was stopped by community members.
Another active fire is between Omaruru and Kalkfeld, which is said to have been caused by sparks from a train.
The ministry is closely monitoring the situation and the public will be updated.
