Two suspects were arrested over the weekend for possession of elephant tusks and illegal entry into the country near Kwala Village in the Zambezi Region during a joint intelligence-led operation.

The operation uncovered the illegal sale of eight elephant tusks, with one of the suspects found without valid immigration documents.

The police apprehended the suspects, a 23-year-old Zambian and a 16-year-old Namibian, near the Hippo Lodge gravel road within the Katima Mulilo boundary.

The law enforcement revealed that the suspects had presented the tusks to an undercover operative.

They face charges for violating the Controlled Wildlife and Trade and the Immigration Control acts.

In a separate incident, a 47-year-old man was arrested late Sunday at Katima Mulilo after being found in possession of a lion skin.

The arrest followed an intelligence-led operation conducted at the suspect’s residence in the New Cowboy compound.

The 39-year-old suspect, who is known but is yet to appear in court, was apprehended for violating the Controlled Wildlife and Trade Act, which prohibits the possession of wildlife products without a permit.

Additionally, he faces charges under the Immigration Control Act for being in Namibia without valid immigration documentation.

The suspect is expected to make his first appearance in the Katima Mulilo Magistrate's Court on Tuesday.
