Man arrested with elephant tusks granted bail

A man arrested for allegedly being in possession of two elephant tusks at the Buffalo checkpoint in the Mukwe Constituency on Friday, made his first appearance in the Rundu Magistrate’s Court on Monday.

Lihako Sishwama, 31, appeared before magistrate Selma Shiiga, who granted him bail of N$10,000.

According to the charge sheet, Sishwama was arrested during a special police operation in the Mukwe Constituency.

He faces a charge of dealing in and being in possession of controlled wildlife products.

29-year-old man arrested in connection with the death of his five-year-old stepson

A 29-year-old man has been arrested in connection with the death of his five-year-old stepson, Wilfred Dantani Eiseb, at Walvis Bay.

A passerby allegedly discovered the body half-buried in a sand dune on the outskirts of Narraville and notified the police.

According to the Unit Commander for Community Affairs in the Erongo Region, Inspector Ileni Shapumba, preliminary investigations revealed that Wilfred was allegedly taken by his stepfather from a tuck shop in Johanna Benson Street, Tutaleni.

39-year-old woman arrested on a charge of assault of a 12 year old child

Police Spokesperson Kauna Shikwambi has confirmed that police are investigating a possible case of GBV after a video of a child who was allegedly beaten with a bottle and sustained cuts on her hand by her guardian surfaced on the net this morning.

In the video, the young girl narrates that her guardian, who was at a bar then, called her to go get her baby, but she did not hear the call. The guardian allegedly then went on to interrogate the child and beat her up. She says it's not the first time she's been physically abused.

Several people arrested for illegal border crossing

Several people were arrested for illegal border crossing and a number of items were confiscated during a police operation in the Zambezi Region.

Zambezi Regional Commander, Commissioner Andreas Shilelo said a  33-year-old male was charged after he was found trying to cross to Zambia with boxes of undeclared alcohol.

"He was charged on custom act, his vehicle was impounded and he was also fined N$50 000 for using the vehicle to cross the border with goods that are not declared". 

Police in the Erongo Region arrests suspects found in possession of drugs

A number of people were arrested after they were found in possession of drugs in Swakopmund, Erongo Region, during police operations.

All the suspects were arrested in the Mondesa suburb.

A 28-year-old Congolese woman with refugee status was detained in Tamariskia after she was found with seven bankies of crystal meth, 11 dosages of cocaine powder, and six kilograms of cannabis, all worth N$31,000.
