The dream of Shamaturu residents in the Kavango East Region of having a modern primary healthcare centre will soon be realised.
This follows a decision to resume the construction of a clinic that was abandoned nine years ago.
The construction of the modern healthcare facility first commenced in 2012 but was abandoned abruptly as the tender was awarded to an inexperienced contractor.
Shamaturu residents have since been receiving healthcare services in a corrugated iron structure, which is not conducive.
In an interview with nbc News, the Executive Director of the Ministry of Health and Social Services, Ben Nangombe, confirmed that the new contractor is already on site. Nangombe said the construction work is expected to be completed by May next year.
The villagers have applauded the government for addressing their needs by availing of proper healthcare services.
On his part, Mukwe Constituency Councillor Damian Maghambayi called for the construction of feeder roads leading to the clinic since the Shamaturu village serves as a catchment area for many surrounding villages.
