Teachers from the Oshana and Oshikoto regions were commended for their efforts in educating the young members of society and the global village.

Without teachers, there would be no formal education and citizens would not acquire the advanced knowledge needed for technological advancement and the ability of the nation to be part of the fourth industrial revolution.

These remarks were made by Oshikoto Governor Penda YaNdakolo in a speech read on his behalf by Samuel Shivute, Chairperson of the Oshikoto Regional Council, at the World Teachers' Day celebration at Omuthiya. Oshikoto Education Director Aletta Eises says teachers are vital because they are not only teaching children to remain in Namibia, but they are shaping them to penetrate the global arena in search of greener pastures.

She said teachers should ensure that they impart knowledge and skills to children to enable them to sustain themselves and employ others after completing their education and not wait for someone to employ them all the time.

Teachers also play a critical role in nation-building as the transformation of education starts with them producing leaders able to contribute to economic growth and poverty alleviation.

Civilisations start with teachers, as well as the economic development, careers, and political development of any given nation.
