Africa cannot realise its Agenda 2063 and SDGs if the issues of water sanitation and security are not addressed.
The African Union Commission (AUC) Director of Sustainable Environment and Blue Economy (SEBE) expressed these sentiments at the 13th Ordinary Session of Exco of the African Ministers' Council on Water (AMCOW) in Windhoek today.
Harsen Nyambe stressed that water is at the centre of all sectors, hence it is important to ensure that issues of water security and sanitation are addressed.
He, therefore, says there is a need for African governments to do more to advocate for investment in the water sector.
Furthermore, they should also put mechanisms in place that will address transboundary water issues and dilapidated water infrastructure in the region.
Nyambe also committed that the AUC will continue to work with AMCOW to ensure they achieve their water agenda goals.
AMCOW provides political and policy direction and advocacy in the provision, use, and management of water resources for sustainable social and economic development in Africa.
It consists of 15 member states.
