The Chairperson of the African Union says Africa must create wealth amongst its people as a tool to curb foreign aid and stimulate peace.

Moussa Faki Mahamat says the need to embrace African ideas on issues facing the continent is also critical to attaining transformation across all spheres of life.

Mahamat also raised concern about the unconstitutional seizure of political power in Africa, saying although success has been achieved in restoring peace across Africa, concerns still exist.

He says, at present, five African countries are embroiled in post-electoral conflict due to unconstitutional seizures of power, which raises concern as the AU pledged to end armed conflicts by 2020.

In his remarks during a meeting with African diplomats on strategies to restore and maintain peace in Windhoek, Mahamat also emphasised the need to tap into Africa's religious and traditional customs to curb issues of conflict and terrorism.

Speaking on the occasion, Namibia's Minister of Home Affairs, Immigration, Safety and Security, Dr Albert Kawana, expressed optimism about Mahamat's visit to Namibia.

Kawana says Namibia remains deeply indebted to the help offered by the world during its quest for independence and will strive by all means to maintain peace and stability in the country.

Namibia is currently hosting a two-day meeting of the 13th High-Level Retreat on the Promotion of Peace, Security, and Stability in Africa under the theme: "Transformative Mediation for Africa's Effective Governance and Peace Dividends",
