The Windhoek Municipality is still waiting for the approval of the Ministry of Urban and Rural Development on its recommendation to appoint Conrad Lutombi as Chief Executive Officer of the City of Windhoek.

The CEO's position became vacant following the resignation of Robert Kahimise in October 2020.

The City of Windhoek received 60 applications when the position was advertised in April.

Only 16 met the requirements.

Structured interviews held in October last year culminated in recommendations from the interview panel, and issues raised in the process were further addressed.

At a special council meeting held earlier this month, the council endorsed the recommendations of Conrad Lutombi, who scored the highest score.

But Lutombi can only commence his duties once the council receives approval from the line ministry.

The announcement of Lutombi as the successful candidate, however, drew public attention and calls were made to restart the recruitment process, citing irregularities.

The new management committee overturned its predecessor's decision.

Mayor Sadè Gawa!nas refuted claims of corruption and irregularities in the CEO's recruitment process.
