The Mayeyi Traditional Authority has given notice of the termination of the membership in a conservancy of a family residing in Lyanshulu Village.

This came after the family allegedly chose to fall under the jurisdiction of another traditional authority while still residing in the Mayeyi area.

In a letter, the Makombwe family stated that they will no longer be part of the Mayeyi Traditional Authority due to unresolved conflicts.

Speaking to the nbc News team, Chrispin Sifu, a member of the Mayeyi traditional authority and representative of the Nongozi Village, explained that the Makombwe family had had conflicts with the chosen Induna of the area for years.

"We sat and discussed these issues here, and the chief informed them that he would not change his mind about the chosen induna; it would not be possible. Right now, the person who is the induna for Lyanshulu is the same person they found when they moved into that area, Induna Sihela. He is the same person the family stood with to oppose Induna Mufalali from taking over as induna and said they would rather prefer Induna Sihela to remain. The chief changed his decision and installed Induna Sihela back in the position as the same person who was initially there when they moved into the village, but they also fought this decision and continued to say that they wanted the entire area."

Calvin Shozi, Ngambela of the Mayeyi Traditional Authority, said the letter evicting the Makombwe family from the Balyerwa conservancy came after they had disrespected the Mayeyi leader by always walking out of meetings, and therefore they would no longer be a part of the traditional authority.

"The law says that whoever resides under chief Sifu's jurisdiction must show respect to chief Sifu. If at any point that person leaves, they must give and show the same respect to the new khuta he or she is moving to."

Shozi said their membership termination from the Balyerwa Conservancy will be done through all necessary channels, including involving the Zambezi Regional Governor.

According to the traditional authority, the Makombwe family announced that they would now fall under Chief Mamili of the Mafwe Traditional Authority.
