The Swapo Party MP Lucia Witbooi has withdrawn from the race for the Party's Deputy-Secretary General position.

Witbooi however remains a candidate for the Swapo Party Central Committee.

Witbooi was to square off against David Hamutenya, Uahekua Herunga and Evelyn !Naweses-Tayele to deputise Sophia Shaningwa or Armas Amukwiyu if either are elected as Secretary-General.

She told nbc News that the decision to withdraw was a conscious one aimed at giving others a chance.

Party President Hage Geingob described the withdrawal as democratic and free from any possible influence.
