Gobabis Mayor, Elvire Theron, is pleased with the progress made at the town in terms of housing provision.
During a site visit, Theron told nbc News that more than 150 beneficiaries will move into their new homes by April of next year.
The Gobabis Mayor says housing provision is a key matter the council is concerned with, and in that regard, it has brought on board various development partners.
Theron urged the community to consider their homes as assets rather than a luxury.
"Obviously, land and housing are our most pressing needs throughout the country, so when you see houses coming, you know something is happening, and people will be happy to have roofs over their heads. This is movement, growth, and development for Gobabis, and I'm very excited and happy about what I've seen so far, especially with the shack dwellers. It is something that has touched my heart, and I want to tell the community that needs houses, to get involved because, at the end of the day, it is about you having a house. Let's get involved and transform this place."
These initiatives, Theron believes, will also create jobs.
"There are a lot of people in Gobabis that are employed in these projects, which means there will be bread on their table for people again, so it is a whole movement happening in Gobabis."
The mayor appealed to contractors to construct affordable houses, while at the same time appealing to residents to honor their municipal bills to ensure reliable services.
