A new hydrogen project, at Daures Green Hydrogen Village, was launched in the Erongo Region.

The new renewable energy venture will produce hydrogen and ammonia to be used in agricultural and research activities as well as job creation.

The Daures Green Hydrogen Consortium is a group of various stakeholders working together to run this massive renewable energy project.

The project will have its village some 60 kilometers south-west of the Brandberg Mountain, and its development is scheduled to start in March next year (2023).

The village will produce 31 tons of hydrogen and 109 tons of ammonia per year during the first phase.

It will further produce 500 tons of tomatoes and 600 tons of carrots, making it Namibia's first carbon-free agriculture producer.

The project is expected to create more than 70 sustainable jobs in the first phase and over 100 temporary jobs during construction.

Research activities will be conducted in collaboration with the Universities of Namibia and Stuttgart and will further provide internship and training opportunities to students.

The Daures Green Hydrogen Consortium has entered into agreements with the Rossing Foundation, Sable Chemical Industries Limited, and Afritin Mining.

Daures Green Hydrogen Consortium CEO Jerome Namaseb expressed optimism for the future of the new undertakings.

The Daure Daman Traditional Authority, the Tsiseb Conservancy, the University of Namibia, the University of Stuttgart, Fichtner GmbH, Windhoek Consulting Engineers, GeoNet GmbH, and Enersense Energy Namibia are the members of the consortium.
