The United Nation's Food Agency, World Food Programme has partnered with Tololi Online, a digital start-up in Namibia, to set up an e-commerce platform for farmers to access markets for their fruits and vegetables.
The platform, which was launched in the capital, allows public and private entities to directly procure such commodities from farmers, at a click of a button using the application, also known as Tololi.
The World Food Programme - WFP, has established over 30 integrated food system projects centred at schools, communities, correctional and health facilities, amongst others, in Namibia.
Speaking at the launch, Daison Ngirazi, WFP's head of programme, says such new innovative platforms are required to exploit gaps in any market, and in return create jobs and income for the youths.
The entities also penned a Memorandum of Understanding to establish guidelines for cooperation.
Tololi Online's co-founder, Edilson Zau, expressed gratitude to the WFP's willingness to partner with youth start-ups, particularly, Tololi, saying benefits for small-scale farmers are quite immense if they utilise the platform.
He says the platform will also integrate e-payment systems for users to enhance efficiency and convenience.
Tololi Online, Nangolo emphasized, also boasts tools where goods origin, quality, and nutritional value, amongst others, can be accessed if such a need arises.
