Some schools in the capital are doing all they can to accommodate children attending school.

One such is the Green Leaves Primary School, situated in one of the city's most populated informal settlements, Okahandja Park.

The Green Leaves Primary School opened its doors in 2015 and accommodates more than 1,800 learners.

The school has 41 teachers and 32 classrooms, each taking between 35 and 40 learners.

An appeal to the government to build extra classrooms has not yet received attention, and in the meantime, the school management has taken it upon themselves to build corrugated iron sheet structures.

Upon our arrival at the school, we found children playing in the scorching sun because there was no space in the classrooms to accommodate them.

Sofia Haipinge, a mathematics and science Head of the Department, poured her heart out as she pleaded with good Samaritans to assist the school with furniture and more building materials.

The school's principal, Chanville Mackrill, speaks highly of the learners' and teachers' performances, despite the challenges the school is facing.
