There is an urgent need to mobilize resources for the Namibia Institute of Mining and Technology, NIMT, to accommodate more students.
This was the observation by a delegation which comprised the Mayor of Swakopmund Dina Namubes, Councillor Blasius Goraseb and Constituency Councillor Louisa Kativa that visited the two NIMT campuses at Arandis.
According to Goraseb, NIMT has the capacity to absorb the thousands of young people that didn't make it to university, saying that the will is there but the lack of resources is the biggest handicap.
The Mayor of Swakopmund Dina Namubes says she will avail herself to further create awareness in order to ensure that the Namibian child is educated. She promised to try her utmost best in attracting more students to NIMT.
Executive Director of NIMT, Ralph Bussel while commending the councillors for the visit, stressed that vocational training institutions are usually only considered when students don't qualify for universities and encouraged people to abandon that mindset.
Bussel also called on the councillors to mobilize parents and their children to visit NIMT, as a way to invoke a passion for vocational training.
