Some trade unions in Namibia mention quality education, outdated statistics and a lack of social protection as some of the issues hampering progress, in terms of jobs and social protection in Namibia. 

This comes after a high-level mission from the International Labour Organisation, (ILO) met with various trade unions in Windhoek. 

The mission came to assess Namibia's readiness and capacity to participate in the UN's Global Accelerator on Jobs and Social Protection. 

The Global Accelerator Initiative aims to assist UN Member states to speed up the achievement of tangible solutions to problems, including high unemployment among the youth, inadequate social protection, an unregulated informal labour market, inequality and weak coordination of policies and institutional capacities, amongst others. 

The matter of quality education was raised by various unions

The unions noted a host of other issues hampering an efficient labour sector, such as corruption, workers' rights issues, child labour, the need for decent rural employment and outdated statistics, which can make it difficult to plan ahead. 

Another point of discussion centred around social protection.
