The trial of Christian Kudumo, accused of killing his wife Augustinu Andeline Chicalu last year, could be headed to the Oshakati High Court.
State Advocate Johan Pienaar says the state is expected to submit this month for the case to be heard at the High Court.
The family of Augustinu Andeline Chikalu handed a petition to the Rundu Magistrate's Court against Kudumo's release on bail.
Pienaar told them that the DNA test results were still outstanding and needed to be submitted along with the case docket to the Oshakati High Court.
Kudumo was granted N$5,000 bail last year, but it was revoked after his family protested.
Reading the petition on behalf of the family, Lucas Chikalu said Kudumo remains a danger to his children after he allegedly threatened to kill them along with their mother if he were to be released on bail.
"We talk about women and child abuse in the country, yet we are seeing a situation coming from our courts where the organizations that speak for women and children and a murderer stay in the court for five months, and he is already granted bail. It's really a shock to us as a family. There are angry family members, and seeing him walk freely might result in someone taking the law into their own hands because clearly, our justice system is not taking this case seriously."
Chikalu said the suspect attempted to kill himself after allegedly killing his wife, which he might fulfill given the opportunity.
"We appreciate that the community is also standing up for this, we will definitely bring this to the attention of the magistrate."
Kudumo and Chikalu had three children, ages six, three, and two, before the August incident last year at Rundu's Sun City Informal Settlement.
Both the accused and the deceased were hearing impaired and worked for OK Foods Supermarket at the time of the incident.
