The Namibia Local Authority Workers Union (NALAWU)  has demanded a 3% salary increase for Mariental municipal workers during a lunch-hour protest march. 

IPC MP Michael Mwashindange has raised concerns regarding hardships faced by elderly residents on Impalila Island at the far eastern strip of the Zambezi region.

He told the National Assembly that pensioners on the island have to buy food across the Botswana border and are required to pay import duties.

A senior police officer, Willem Stoffel, today made his first appearance in the Bethanie Magistrates' Court on charges of defeating the end of justice and contravening the Organised Crime Act charges. 

His brief court appearance follows his arrest last Thursday.
