Deputy Prime Minister John Mutorwa is urging the Kunene Regional Council's management to assess the drought situation and to ensure that people in need benefit from the government's drought relief aid.

Mutorwa made an appeal during his visit to the region to assess the drought situation.

A 48-year-old resident of Oshitumbe B Village, in Omusati's Uukwaluudhi Conservancy, was killed by elephants on Sunday. 

The body of Efraim Shivute was discovered early on Tuesday morning by community members.

The Council of Churches Namibia (CCN) is calling on churches in the country to support vulnerable communities.

Churches, the CCN says, should, in collaboration with government and non-governmental organisations, do more to address the root causes of poverty and food insecurity.

The 14th Joint Law Enforcement Operation by the Trans Kalahari Corridor Management Committee, which brought together law enforcement agencies from Botswana, Namibia, and South Africa, was described as a success.

To date, 56,875 kilogrammes of game meat have been distributed by the government in support of the drought relief programme.

The game meat is from 157 animals of different species that were hunted in the Mangetti, Mahango, Kwando, Buffalo, and Mudumo national parks.
