Former fisherman creates own employment through selling farming nets

After losing his job in the fishing industry, a former fisherman at Walvis Bay is now in the business of selling farming nets, agricultural netting, ropes, and other accessories along the highway, along the northern industrial area.

Business Today visited the busy man on the street to find out what it was like to make a living from his chosen trade.

Only 3 bids for sale of 40 crocodiles

The Ministry of Environment, Forestry, and Tourism has received only three bids for the sale of 40 crocodiles.

The Ministry's Spokesperson, Romeo Muyunda, confirmed that the three bids are currently being evaluated and that the process is expected to end next week.

He explained that once the evaluation is complete, the 40 crocodiles will be awarded to the successful bidder.

For now, the ministry cannot reveal the names of the bidders until the evaluation process is done.

Vehicle sales surpass 1,000 units in April

New car sales totaled 1,004 units in April 2023, reflecting a 10% year-on-year increase but an 18.1% monthly decline.

This information was revealed by Cirrus Capital, a Namibian-owned financial services firm, in its vehicle sales report.

While this is fewer than the 1,226 units sold in March 2023 and the 1,103 units sold in February 2023, it is the third month in a row that new vehicle sales have surpassed 1,000 units, with commercial vehicle sales outnumbering passenger vehicle sales by 68 units.

Vendors travel from various regions to sell to Queen Mary 2 tourists

More than 15 art and craft vendors travelled to Walvis Bay from Kunene, Otjozondjupa, northern and Kavango regions to sell their products to tourists on the Queen Mary 2 passenger vessel.

The art and craft vendors are mostly women who support their families through the sale of souvenirs to tourists.

Rita Kaveto who is originally from Kavango East Region but sells her products at Okahandja told nbc News that the arrival of vessels supports their businesses sometimes.
