127 graduate at National Youth Service

Deputy Prime Minister Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah has appealed to financial institutions to lower their loan requirements for start-up capital and collateral for technical skills graduates to set up businesses.
 
Ndaitwah's views were shared on her behalf by Sports, Youth, and National Services Deputy Minister Emma Kantema-Goamas during the 5th National Youth Service Skills Graduation at the Riefontien Youth Training Centre in the Otjozondjupa Region.

Over N$400 000 raised for Oshakati Totem Expo

More than N$400,000 was raised at the Oshakati Totem Expo gala dinner to raise funds for the event's success in December.

The Oshakati Totem Expo began in 2012 but was halted in 2022 due to COVID-19.

Oshakati Town Mayor Leonard Hango was hopeful the totem expo's return would result in a bigger and better event than ever before.

Some of the funds raised at the gala dinner will be used to build a permanent structure for the annual hosting of the event, while the venue will be used to host various other events in the town as well.

Namibia calls for immediate suspension of the IMF surcharges

Namibia has added its voice to the countries calling for the immediate suspension of the International Monetary Fund's (IMF) surcharges for developing countries during the 8th Ministerial meeting of the Like-Minded Group of Middle Income Countries at the UN General Assembly on Friday.

Surcharges are additional interest payments the IMF imposes on heavily indebted borrowing countries.

LPM wants Zimbabwe's Ambassador send back

Bernardus Swartbooi, leader of the Landless People's Movement (LPM), has called on President Hage Geingob to send back the Zimbabwean Ambassador to Namibia.

The LPM added its voice to that of various opposition parties in the SADC region that denounced the August 23rd and 24th Harmonised General Elections in Zimbabwe.

According to preliminary reports by SADC, the African Union, and several international election observer bodies, elections in that country fell short of several constitutional requirements.

Swapo Party members called to unite

The Swapo Party Vice President has called for unity among party members, regardless of which candidate they supported during last year's Congress.

Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah made the call at a party rally held in Rehoboth to formally communicate the outcomes of the 7th Swapo Party Congress.

During the event, Nandi-Ndaitwah introduced the top three leaders of the party structure: the Vice President, Secretary General, and Deputy Secretary General.

She also introduced the members of the Central Committee and the Politburo.

Ndandi-Ndaitwah, Mcleod-Katjirua pay tribute to Archbishop Tjijombo

The Minister of International Relations and Cooperation, Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah, and the Governor of the |Khomas Region, Laura Mcleod-Katjirua, were among those who paid tribute to the late Archbishop Petrus Tjijombo.

Friends and acquaintances of the late Archbishop continue to pay tribute at his house in Windhoek.

Tjijombo, who was 87 years old, was described as a God-fearing man, a community leader, and an anti-apartheid and liberation struggle icon.

MCO on Politics Defence and Security implements 86% of decisions taken

The Ministerial Committee of the Organ on Politics, Defence and Security was able to implement 86% of the decisions taken.

The Chairperson, Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah, disclosed this during the closing ceremony of the five-day meeting of the organ held in Windhoek.

The decisions are part of the Ministerial Committee Organ meeting held last year.

SADC to deploy Force Brigade Plus to DRC

The 25th Ordinary Meeting of the Ministerial Committee of the Organ on Politics has decided to deploy the SADC Force Brigade Plus to the DRC to address the security situation in that country.

The Chairperson of the Ministerial Committee of the Organ and Namibia's Minister of International Relations and Cooperation, Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah, made the announcement during the opening of the organ meeting in Windhoek.

Amani Africa and Namibian Government Host Reform Meeting on Multilateral System

The think-tank Amani Africa, together with the Namibian Government, have initiated a two-day high-level meeting on Africa for the reform of the multilateral system in the changing global order.

This consultation meeting will reflect on a number of strategic-level matters in relation to the reform of the multilateral systems in Africa.
