Swapo Party pioneers urged to sensitise voters

The Swapo Party Regional Coordinator for the ||Kharas Region has urged the party's pioneers to sensitise eligible voters to go and register for the November general elections. 

Mathew Mumbala made the call at the Pioneers Movement regional elective conference at Keetmanshoop. 

The Swapo Party Youth League (SPYL) is mandated by the party's constitution to be custodians of the Pioneers Movement and thus must ensure its structures are active. 

LWDC expresses interest to home Miss Namibia and Miss Teen pageants

The Namibia Broadcasting Corporation's executive management is on a fact-finding mission in ||Kharas Region to explore the possibilities of hosting both the 2024 Miss Namibia and Miss Teen pageants at Luderitz. 

The executive management, led by nbc's Chief News and Programming Officer Menesia Muinjo, met with the Luderitz Waterfront Development Company management as well as the Luderitz business community to deliberate the possibility of hosting the national beauty pageants there. 

Education Ministry awards best performing in ||Kharas Region

The Directorate of Education Arts and Culture in the ||Kharas Region awarded the best-performing teachers, learners, and schools with certificates after the recently released performance statistics by the Directorate of National Examinations.

This year, the Directorate of National Examinations. released a list of about five hundred best-performing learners countrywide, while the ||Kharas region was ranked third overall in the grade 11 AS level examination. 

||Kharas Governor Aletha Fredericks officiated at the event.

Mines Minister addresses lead exposure cover-up allegations

The Minister of Mines and Energy, Tom Alweendo, has addressed questions posed by LPM MP Henny Seibeb regarding allegations of lead exposure cover-up by Trevali Mining Corporation in the ||Kharas Region.


Seibeb noted that a medical report exists that reveals the findings of lead concentration tests conducted on 30 children. According to the report, all 30 children exhibited high levels of lead in their blood. These tests were performed by a medical doctor who was previously employed by the mining company.

APRM engages stakeholders in ||Kharas Region

The African Peer Review Mechanism (APRM) has engaged stakeholders in the ||Kharas Region to assess government performance to enhance good governance and foster sustainable development.

Civil servants, representatives from corporate business and civil organisations, and traditional leaders attended the regional consultative engagement at Keetmanshoop.

APRM is an African self-assessment mechanism that reviews good performance and encourages the implementation of policies and practices of good political, economic, and corporate governance in Africa.

NDGA host stakeholder meeting in ||Kharas Region

The Namibia Deposit Guarantee Authority (NDGA) is currently conducting stakeholder engagements in the ||Kharas Region.

The NDGA aims to protect depositors from the loss of their deposits by compensating them in the unlikely event of a commercial bank failure.

The scheme also safeguards against panic withdrawals by assuring depositors of the safety of their deposits.
