Former President Nangolo Mbumba has called for the consolidation of Swapo Party unity and the protection of Namibia's national sovereignty as the country pursues economic emancipation.

Swapo Party President Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah has called on party members to uphold unity, discipline and the party's principles of solidarity, freedom and justice at the opening of the 11th Ordinary Meeting of the Central Committee of the party.

Vice President Lucia Witbooi has said the Swapo Party remains open to accepting new and former members.

Witbooi gave an assurance at a mobilisation rally for the November Regional Councils and Local Authorities elections held at Odibo in the Ohangwena Region.

The Independent Patriots for Change (IPC) has said it remains strong and unwavering in its mission despite the defection of its three senior members to the Swapo Party. 

IPC's Erongo Chairperson, Alosius Kangulu, addressed the media on Friday at Walvis Bay .

Delegates to the Swapo Party 6th Extraordinary Congress have elected Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah as the party president, following the death of Dr. Hage Geingob last year, leaving the position vacant.

The National Unity Democratic Organisation (NUDO) President Dr. Utjiua Muinjangue stated that the party did not register a presidential candidate for the upcoming election because they recognise their limited chances of success.

Muinjangue made these remarks during the party's star rally in Okakarara.

The ongoing infighting in SWANU of Namibia has taken another turn as the party's 8ste Laan branch has proceeded to hold congress on its own.
