Grootfontein Municipality plans to relocate 65 families currently residing in single quarters to new social housing units. The relocation, initially scheduled for last year, was delayed due to the installation of prepaid water meters and some families lacking deeds of sale.
NamWater has begun installing pre-paid water meters in Keetmanshoop to curb escalating debt and improve water management. Spokesperson Lot Ndamanomhata confirmed the system will come into effect once installations are complete.
The Grootfontein Municipality's Acting Chief Executive Officer, Indileni Lungameni, says the Council has managed to stabilise its finances this year and will commence with key projects early next year.
The Grootfontein Municipality plans to roll out development activities and projects in 2025 that will enhance the socio-economic status of the town and improve residents' well-being.
